The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is the Smithsonian's home to the Space Shuttle, Concorde and Stealth Bomber among other examples of US and international aeronautics. This spacious flight hanger offers an exceptionally dramatic venue for events both formal and fun.
“The event at the Smithsonian was spectacular!...CSI’s design and layout for the entertainment, food buffets and dining tables around the Space Shuttle was both innovative and beautiful... I could not have asked for a better planning partners than the folks at CSI.”
Mark Banker, Senior Program Manager
The 165 guests arrived to cocktails and pass hors d’oeuvres which were offered by the attentive wait staff while they checked out the hundreds of artifacts that are housed in exhibit cases and hung from the ceiling of this two-story hangar. A seated buffet was placed in the connecting James S. McDonnell Space Hangar where the centerpiece Space Shuttle Enterprise is displayed. An “out-of-this-world” serpentine buffet drew the guests into the hangar where open seating was placed underneath the dauntingly massive shuttle. Tables were draped in shimmering shades of blue and gray - reflective of a night sky and cymbidium orchid centerpieces reminded guests of vapor trails projecting upwards into the atmosphere. CSI arranged for enhanced perimeter and accent lighting to provide additional movement, drama and to showcase the many memorable exhibits. The projected lighting underneath the Shuttle gave the impression that it was landing with images of sparks as it touched down. Adding to this very special evening were complimentary rides on an F-4 Phantom flight simulator and a private viewing of an IMAX film after dinner.
